I'M BACK
My internet is up & running & I like my new apartment. I'm trying to show by this picture how much bigger this apartment is then my old one. YAY! Another thing I like about this apartment is, it's the ONLY one in the building. No weird or noisy neighbors to deal with. And...it smells good. REALLY, It has it's own pleasant smell. Maybe it's all the cedar lined closets or maybe it's just that the other apartment smelled musty & I had to deal with other peoples cooking & smoking odors. Anyway, it's nice to come home to a clean, uncluttered & pleasant smelling home.
I'm also rethinking getting a bird. I don't know if i want even that much complication in my life. Sometimes I get these impulsive ideas like getting a pet or a tattoo, but, fortunately the impulse passes if I don't act on it quickly. The thing is I couldn't get just one bird, because I don't have time to pay enough attention to it & I'd worry that it would be lonely, but two birds would be too much responsibility, I think.

Looks roomy. I like the way you have those rugs arranged.
Bird-wise, if you aren't sure, why not just wait and see how you feel later? If you decide later you really want one (or a flock), you can get one then.
Infidel It's more then twice as big as my other apt. That's not saying much considering how small the other one was. I don't need a lot of room except it does feel a lot less claustrophobic.
The more I think about it. The less of a good idea a bird sounds.
I think the way to go is more houseplants. How is your natural light in the new place?
Your apartment look's very nice and organized Ms.Rita.And being the only unit in the buiding is rare to me... sound's pretty cool tough. You havent seen small, ... girl... my London flat in Westminster(Central London)was an efficiency type place... one large room... a bedroom area on one side, a small kitchenette on the other... and a bath with NO shower, an antique tub, etc. ... girl... it was small! I had a similar type place in New York City as well in a brownstone, and another in Chicago like those. That's why I love Dallas.. modern, spacious, great weather,pool's,etc... and half the price!
Another thing... when a place is cluttered, it makes the roominess obsolete, my place is an embarrassment to look at... it is stuffed! I love your setting actually! And yes.... nice rug's!
As far as pet's... I personally dont know much about that...I have none. I did have alot of snake's at a time... and also some cat's before.
Enjoy Dear .... :)
phil The natural light is not that good. My main windows (pictured) face north. There are a couple of ceiling hooks above those windows. A couple of ferns might be nice hanging there. Those curtains have gotta go, too. I prefer long billowy ones that move in a breeze.
ranch chimp I collected material possesions for years. A lot of us did. Remember those commercials urging us to buy storage containers to store our stuff in so we could buy more stuff? *shudder* When I got divorced I jettisoned years of clutter. All that stuff had become a noose of sorts around my neck. I swore it would not happen again. But, as I was moving from my small apt. last week, I was dismayed at what I've added to my pile of "stuff" in a year. As soon as I get all settled in my goal will be to toss out two large boxes of stuff. That would be a fun thing to post on my blog as I can't think of anything thoughtful or intelligent to write about.;)
The more I think about it. The less of a good idea a bird sounds.
Get an ostrich. I hear they're delicious.
infidel Ha ha! :p
I think I'll stick with my bucket of worms.
When people bring up their pets in conversation I like saying I have worms. It always gets their attention. ;)
"Sometimes I get these impulsive ideas like getting a pet or a tattoo ..."
Okay, so 'fess up. How many tats, and where at?
On the subject of birds, they can make a Hell of a mess ... Seeds strewn all about your nice, new apartment. Okay, said seeds will be centralized around the bird cage, but it's still messy. You might want to keep that in mind, and opt for another tattoo, instead. ;)
Or a snake. Think about it. They don't make a mess. They're quiet. And, they're solitary creatures, anyway, so there's no need to provide them with a companion.
arthbard No birds, no tattoos, no commitments.
Snakes? I like them fine in the garden. They seem like they'd be boring pets. Not much better then worms, which i already have.
I guess I'm going to remain petless for a while.
Looks like it has less character, but the extra space and especially the privacy are excellent upgrades. I rented an apartment after my first divorce in 1995. It was a carriage house off of historic Summit Ave in Saint Paul. It was a cheaply renovated 2 bedroom with a vaulted ceiling in the living room over a garage on a brick alleyway. It was pretty cool. It was my bachelor pad - not that I was such a great love em and leave em guy though. I lived there for 3 1/2 years and 4 "relationships". Neighbors can be are bad enough even without having to share walls with them.
ps - how about a bird tattoo? upper right shoulder blade.
Glad you have a new home that is a pleasant sanctuary. That's how homes should be.
rev It does have less "character" but that is a good thing for me at the moment. No neighborly distractions.
You are right, the upgrades work for me. It makes the small increase in rent payment, money well spent.
Regarding tattoos:
I'm just not a tattoo person. Doing something on impulse is fine, as long as it can be undone later. That is the problem with pets & tattoos. Although pets are easier to get rid of then tattoos.

Good for you. I will never understand why anyone thinks a perfectly-formed ankle can be improved by putting a ring of green crud around it.
Although pets are easier to get rid of then tattoos.
Well, you could tattoo your pet, and that way, when the getting-rid-of-it time comes, you could kill two ostriches with one stone.
regulas
That is right.
My childhood had a profound effect on how I want my sanctuary to be. Growing up in a weirdly dysfunctional & unstable environment, I try to cultivate the things that I missed...
Mostly, a clean & calm environment.

Ha! Pet tattoos. That's a terrible concept. That would get one a spot here or at the end of some vigilantes rope.
It would be the end of any political career that's for sure.
well, that link was ment to direct you to "Goth Kittens" a concept that went terribly wrong.
i love those persian carpets, that gives a nice touch. I love your cozy living room.
Thank you Prash. I remember the pictures you sent of your apartment. Very Cosmopolitan!
