Our baseball hero, Homer Striker tries on the villainess's boa...GOLLEEE Homer!I've spent the last two weeks working on a 24 page program for this years theater production. I've lost a lot of sleep over it. It's been hell. Projects are never as easy as one imagines they'll be when they volunteer for them. Not that I regret doing it, of course. It's been a valuable learning experience. 5:00 pm today is the deadline to get the final draft of the program to the publisher, and tomorrow I'll be taking a 4 hr. trip down the coast to Smith River, CA. to pick up the 7,000 finished publications. They will be ready for opening night on Friday. *Whew* When I get back from the publisher, I'll post a couple of the pages so you all can see what I've been sweating blood over.
This weekend I'll finish my big wall art project & then I can really start learning my lines for the play. Since I started almost two mths. after the rest of the cast, I won't be on stage until the middle of June. This year I have have 30 lines compared to 22 last year. The lady sewing my costume this year is the best! Perhaps I'll post a picture of me wearing it & you can see me in my size 12 glory.
Our Play this year centers on the time when my town was heavily into semi pro baseball. In the late 1800's & early 1900's, Coquille was in a league with four other local towns. The name of the Coquille team was the "Coquille Loggers." I've been doing research on the team & the era that they played in. It's very interesting....Stay tuned!

Heh,heh, heh ... Tell Homer it's quite fashionable, but I dont think it's wise to wear one during the game :) (just kiddin...dont get a rope for my neck)
Wow! Ms.Rita ... You got a full plate! But I guess it's all worth it too. Cause you will have the mural complete, and get to have the production to do,which will probably be fun once your on the stage. The 4 hour drive is good for the mind in between... because it give's you some relaxation time, and I know the terrain is beautiful and soothing as well. Another thing that is a benefit, is being in a enviroment where your not bugged with the realities of the mess the world and urban area's are in,and the BS. It certainly cant leave you much time for cyberspace ... but... what the hell ... life's about gratification of the sense's (well, at least should be). I envy you girl ... I just wish I could have a lil more fun and relaxation, but I reckon that's my own fault. :)
I'm sure someone will make a video of it as well of the show, perhap's you can post some of it?
Oh well ... have fun Ms.Rita! :)
I am looking forward to see how the wall project is turning up and certainly the details of your costume.
hey, your homer looks cool and cute...:-)
Big projects like that can definitely be daunting, however, once done they give you a great sense of accomplishment.
Yay! We sent the final draft of the program to the press at 7:00pm last night, only 2 hrs. past our deadline! :) That was probably one of the hardest projects I've ever done.
Ranch Chimp When I was married I didn't have the freedom or the incentive to get involved in these kinds of pursuits. Now I realize life is short & I plan on keeping busy. It is a beautiful drive to Smith River about 3&1/2 hrs. from here, & it's going to be a nice day.
Prash I'll certainly keep you posted. Yes, he's a very nice kid. Last night he was in his first big dress rehearsal with a live audience. He did a good job & was very well received
phil So true! It is gratifying to know one is capable of the bigger projects. Now if I could figure out how to make the big bucks!
Baseball can be a fun sport to play, but I still find it boring to watch....anyhow, Go AZ Diamondbacks!
qf I agree, baseball can be boring to watch. When I was going through old newspapers, I followed a season of the local league in 1923... Remember this was before television and just a few years after the invention of the Radio... I could see how the sport was a big deal, esp. when there was nothing else much to do on a weekend. I've heard a few old timers say the baseball players were local celebrities.
Good luck with the programs, and have fun with the play!
oh, and judging from just this one pic? "Homer" there is a cutie
