An Update on My Brother in Thailand

After I wrote the post here about my brother in Thailand & sent him $2,000 of my own money via the State Dept., he decided again he didn't want to come home. Not only that he was upset because he couldn't personally access the money I sent (it was strictly stipulated the money I sent was to pay for bills he acquired in the Hospital. Any left over money going toward a ticket home.) What he did do... was send all his church friends an E-mail telling them God told him to stay in Thailand He told them how bad the living conditions were there, that he was supporting his wife & her whole family, (I found out through the State dept. that he's not even married)etc...& why they should send him money. He also told them his sister (me) was an Atheist & it would be better not to send any money to him through me.
He got our Mother to set up a donation account at her local bank so his religious friends could send their donations there. So my mom collects the checks sent by whomever my brother solicits w/his God talk & funnels it to him via Western Union Thailand. Slick, huh?

Howdy Ms.Rita! :)

Look ... I will be very frank here okay? With this brother of your's, to be honest...ya'll are pissing in the wind, I realize he's blood/familia and how hard it must be on your mom. He is a big boy, chose and made his bed, including this mission work or whatever they call it. But that's just my opinion and how I think.

I have a brother somewhere's(if he is still alive)never really knew him or care to.I left home at 13, he was probably 6 when I did. He stayed home, finished school, and sponged off my mom and dad till they were both in their graves. He was a strong big boy...but never worked a goddamn hard day's work in his life, was pampered by mom and dad basically... they said...they couldnt help it because he isnt like me and need's protection... the poorest f'n excuse for a man I ever seen! I heard he met a gal that got him in this religious cult crap (7th Day Adventist's)where he had no reason to because he wasnt raised reliogiously...religion was the last thing in our house...we never even had a bible! You would think the religion would have gave him some discipline? Nope ... he still hounded mom and dad they told me monthly. He even called me for money on occassion... I told him...I dont care...and to not ever call my house again, or I will personally find him and beat the living shit out of him. I couldnt when my mom and dad was alive ...cause it would have hurt them. Never heard from him again. It's been year's ... I think he got the point.

One more thing Ms.Rita ... it appear's you "made" him (game) and are hip to the game as well( I like that!) ... it may be a lil more difficult for your mom though, again...that mom/son bond is strong...even if mom is being hustled...mom's dont want to admit it... and sometimes simply dont care I reckon. The same reason I didnt want to be harsh on my brother too much while our parent's were alive. Even after mom died ...my dad basically gave him and his gal a check or two every damn month. It was alway's some excuse...he was "alway's" the victim. Your brother may also be one of the "victim" type's. But I think you have your head screwed on well enough to see the reality here.

Have a good un Ms.Rita!

Unfortunately My Mother is very religious, too. So she eagerly falls for his god con.
The State Dept. guy I dealt with told me that they wouldn't be renewing my brothers visa, but they couldn't stop him from going across the border into another country.
Lo & behold, The Lord is sending him to Laos.
Well, I'm not surprised that he's using religion to be dishonest, but it does irk me that he uses me being an Atheist to imply that that I'm not credible or honest.

I've got seven brothers & sisters & so far I've not disowned any of them. This is tempting me, though!

You said pretty "sick" right? Perhaps disowning is underrated.

Another girl slick not sick. :) Well, people have reasons for doing what they do. I can't fault him too much for getting caught up in religious pandering. After all we were raised in a revival tent meeting pentecostal environment.
What does one expect from that?

The other day my Mother told me that this same brother & I are a lot alike. I don't know what she meant by that (she wouldn't elaborate) I guess it's because we were the kids most influenced by her religion.
Maybe it's because he's a shyster & I'm an inspiring politician. :)ha ha!

Ms.Rita

This is interesting ... I would like to ask you a question maybe somewhat personal here, out of my own curiosity... Are you from Oregon? Or what I guess I am asking is ... were ya'll raised in Oregon? I never would picture Oregon as being a place with tent revival type family gathering's or whatever their called. Maybe in West Texas or Deep SE Texas or Arkansas, or whatever...but Oregon? I was just curious.. if it's too personal...I understand.

Thank You...

I guess this doesn't surprise me considering what you told us about him before. He sounded like he was mentally ill even then. Is he going to pay you back? The worst person close to me I had to deal with was my ex wife who got into drugs and she was so untrustworthy I had to let go of her. It cost me 7K! but it was worth it to get her tragic drama out of my life.

The self-promotionist in me thinks you should email him and all of his email buddies a copy of my "The Secular Bible".

ranch chimp Born & raised in Oregon..."revival tent meeting pentecostal environment" is a little misleading in that we didn't have a lot of revival meetings in tents, but the the same idea is there. My Mom was involved in the Pentecostal revival movement in the 60's & 70's. I wrote a little about my experience here Unfortunately the video with Darren Brown exposing the holy spirit sham isn't available anymore (I couldn't find it, anyway).

Rev I don't ever expect to see that money again. Or him either. It's sad because my Mother has a heart condition & ever since this has been going on, she's gotten a lot worse. But she steadfastly believes he's doing "the Lords work".

I've never had a relationship with someone heavily involved with drugs or alcohol but I imagine it would not be a bed of roses. My oldest sister was a bad alcoholic and a bit mental. I hung around with her for a bit when I was younger & wilder. Like you said, "tragic drama". It's sad & frustrating to watch someone destroy themselves.

qf I don't even bother to needle those kinds of people anymore. It's a waste of time.

BTW, remember that trick with the coffee filter you demonstrated a while ago. I found one similar that I could actually do. here

Very smooth 'Tea Bag Launching'.

As for not needling with the religious crazies, you might as well not be shooting zombies that are trying to eat your brains.

in all this story, I really hope that he is using this money to do some charitable work... and not just for himself. So many things happen in this part of the world...trust me, u don't want to hear about it. It is scarey when you think about it...

prash Good to have you back. :)
I also hope he uses some of that money for good. It's true that the people that are sending it can afford to do so.
