Well, I happen to have some free time on my hands, so I've decided to take a couple classes...An oneline philosophy class & a belly dancing class. The philosophy class because I love philosophy & Mr. Klemplers site & the belly dancing class because I covered some belly dancers during a recent community event for the newspaper & I was mesmerized along with the rest of the crowd by the dancing, the music & the beautiful colors. I also decided I could use the exercise. The troupe leader is offering classes in my city so I signed up.

When you are photographing these sorts of events with a digital camera & esp. taking lots action photos when people are moving, you see the motion through the lens, which not the same as watching it uninterrupted. Trying to follow the motion with the camera & clicking the shutter every few seconds, you see most of the action in frames. Photographing this event illustrated perfectly how differently the individual dancers translate on camera as each dancer had a different level of expertise & athletic ability.*The young lady above was the best subject to photograph, besides the great color combination of her outfit, she was also the most athletic & an experienced dancer. Her confidence & energy translated well on camera. I discovered later, she also is very adept in martial arts.*The lady in green is the teacher & was very precise & poised in her photos.*This beautiful girl was one of the newest members of the troupe. I believe this was her first performance in front of a crowd. Although, her dancing was sweet & dreamy, I had a hard time catching her in a good pose. Most of the pictures of her looked awkward. I thought this picture captured her innocence.

*As usual click on the pictures to make them bigger.

It sounds like the philosophy class is right up your alley, as for the belly dancing, whatever can get you to be active is good for you.

Good looking picture's while in action Ms.Rita...yes...colorful costuming indeed. Kind of remind's me of all the Mexican event's in this town of Mexicana ladies dancing in their multi-colored dresses...it's kind of choreographed I reckon(well at least in latin dance's) so that the color(s) blend's and swirl's into a show of moving color...kind of hypnotic to the eye...if that make's any sense.

I am sure that from what I gather .. these belly dancing classes can not just be fun...but great excercise as well ... good workout stuff if anything!

Have a Happy Halloween Ms.Rita! :)

The philosophy class...Well, I don't know if I'll fit in.
Formal type education is not very familiar to me.
I like trying new things & feel I am up to the challenge.
Ditto on the belly dancing.

Yes, hypnotic is the word. I haven't had many comments on this post, yet. Maybe, what I perceived about the dancers doesn't come across in the pictures? I take so many photos anymore, with specific goals in mind, some times I feel like I might be losing perspective of what other people see.

Go Rita! ...although, walking on asphalt in bare feet sounds a little risky, don't those belly dancers get a case of the Black Foot at all?

Those are lovely photos that you took! And your assessment of how you viewed them is spot on. And I mean it!

It was all very middle eastern actually.

Gee, thanks Arc! Nice talking to you last night, BTW.

I live with a belly dancer and her costumes are more form fitting - I've never seen dresses like that on any middle eastern dancers - just Flamenco and maybe Gypsies. Strange to see this kind of thing in a small town like Coquille. But small towns out there aren't like the ones here where farm animals and sometimes their excrement are often utilized for entertainment.

Maybe not real sophisticated but not so strange, IMO.
Farm animals & excrement!!! WOT?

These are more traditional, "tribal" or "Beledi" type of costume. It's an aesthetic choice. My costumes are "raqs sharqi" - nightclub costumes, though I have a few tribal as well, for the Torchlight Parade and such.

Welcome to the wonderful world of belly dance! It is for everyone. Dance with nature in peace!

Thanks Kristine

We haven't started yet. Still waiting for enough people to sign up.
I'm hoping it will be a nice way to pass the time & get some good exercise.
