Speaking of Christian Music

I live in a valley with mountains all around, it's not always easy to get good radio reception. Especially with the headset I use when I'm on the treadmill. My antiquated headset doesn't have any kind of frequency dial or meter, just a button that you hit until you find the station you want. Unfortunately for me, christian radio stations have taken over the airwaves in my area . Generally, they are blaring out pulpit propaganda & are easy to avoid but often I tune into a station & they are playing christian rock. The music is often deceptive, sometimes it takes listening to half a song before I realize that it's Christian music & I'm listening to the wrong station .
I mean, I'll think I'm listening to a love song about some guy & his woman & it's actually about some guy & Jesus!
I've learned to listen for word clues like prayer, sacrifice, healing, lord, etc... because the songs don't always contain the words, God, church or Jesus.
For instance these are christian lyrics:
You're everything
I could want
That I could need
If I could see
You want me
Could I believe?
'Cause You're perfectly
All I want, all I need
If I could just feel Your touch
& so are these:
What can I do with my obsession
With the things I cannot see
Is there madness in my being
Is it the wind that moves the trees?
Sometimes You're further than the moon
Sometimes You're closer than my skin
And You surround me like a winter fog
You've come and burned me with a kiss
Chorus:
And my heart burns for You
And my heart burns...for You
I wonder...do these guys realize how gay they sound? To be singing about another male like that?

They only thing gayer might be if they wanted Jesus inside them...wait, they do :-O
Maybe if they wanted God to fill them with his spirit...wait, they do.
Gosh, I suppose the next lyrics might look something like this:
I get down on my knees,
won't you come inside me please.
Yeah, I'm on fire
to have you in me is my desire.
Come fill me up,
Come fill me up,
Come fill me with your magical luck!
I guess that explains all those "Jesus is coming" signs.....:-)
OMG! That's awful!!!! :)
On the other hand, there is this song by Sting that plays all the time on the secular music station...
My Goodness Ms.Rita!!! I still cant stop laughing as I'm writing this!! (but really my heart goes out to you Dear...I just cant help picturing you saying this...I just cant stop laughing...or anyone saying this for that matter)The way you describe how you first think it may simply be a "love song" or whatever...and how they slip in these cue word's... it is SO TRUE Dear...they are so slick at how they do thing's(they are slicker than owl shit)...they will use all form's of pop music composition and instrumentation as well...to reach out to the metal crowd, rap crowd, country crowd, alternative crowd, etc.I cant help it Ms.Rita...this is such a hilarious piece...I'm NOT laughing at your misery though.
I'll tell ya what really fuck's with their head's .. go to YouTube for example and find a singer named Diamanda Galas(she is one of my favourite composer's and vocalist's,and I have had the pleasure of meeting her as well) and her video on there called "Litanies of Satan" (actually taken from original french transcript's a couple hundred year's back) email it to them to listen to somehow...this will really light up their live's!! :) (It also I may add is one of my all time favourite's from Ms.Galas)
Loved this post! later Girl!! :)

Christian music is propaganda as we all know & they are invading the airwaves, at least around here.
A friend suggested I break down & get an I-pod. Maybe that is what I'll do. In the meantime I'm getting good at deciphering the "Jesus" code. :)
I followed your link to Diamanda Galas. Interesting.
According to Pentecostal demon possession theory, she would be considered a good candidate for an exorcism. :)
I have three songs I wrote and recorded that are atheist in nature available for listening at my blog.
http://www.aredant.blogspot.com/
Look under the blinking header to the left " Songs by the Rev".
Two are completely original and one is a parody of "From a distance" called "From the Bushes". It's sounds weird because I found a karaoke version of the original and had to electronically change the pitch because I can't sing as high as Bette Midler.
Believe it or not Rita, I went on a Christian Men's Retreat this weekend. It was good fun because I took charge and got people (1) going to an Octoberfest Event, (2) playing billiards and poker (on my own nice poker set), and (3) I got to explain to a few people why religion is bullshit. They were liking me so much towards the end (not explicitely knowing I'm atheist), that they asked me if I would drive kids around on sunday mornings in their vans and talk to the kids about sex education on the tradeoff that I get to drive the van during the week (I told the pastor guy that I would consider it, apparently that non-definant answer about the van-perk job really hurt him, lol).
Medley of Christian rock from Faith + 1 - one of the best South park episodes ever.

It is bad news when alternive voices are silenced due to the overwhelming force of {whatever is the overwhelming force}.
Go for the IPod or mp3 player.
Checked out Galas - She reminds me of Nina Hagen but with an evil twist. I can't say I enjoyed her material very much, sorry.
I might start attending church services just so I can argue with people about how stupid their religion is afterwards.

I remember listening to your songs, back in the day...about three years ago? they are very good, you should write some more.
& The South Park link was So funny! I goes to show, I'm not the only one that has made that correlation.

Watch out! That is how they snag you. :) The next thing they'll make you feel guilty about your Ayn Rand type philosophy, then...

Yes, well it's free enterprise & no one wants that space I gather.
I don't know what advantage their Tax free status gives them, though.
I'm unsnaggable.
You are only a babe in the woods. ;)

Mr.Q.Flux ... on your last few posting's ...heh,heh,heh,heh,heh .....Now that's the SPIRIT!! :) A bright ole boy indeed!! You know the ole strategy may alway's work best ... if you cant defeat them by conventional method's...you kill them with kindness and from within. Even their own Devil himself know's that ....
CONGRATULATION'S Sir, on a job well done.
Come to think of it, I do talk to Jesus from time to time...you know, when I'm at that point?
"Jaysus, woman !!"
Nina Hagen? ( I have a little of her stuff as well a friend gave me) I dont quite see the comparison I reckon... on style's even.
Ms.Galas root's are opera and jazz pianist...one hell of a pianist I may add. I first met her at an underground type setting at a friend's venue...who is also an artist, underground filmaker, and musician/composer by the name of Joe Christ...Joe and I go back many year's...like 3 decade's! But met Diamanda around mid to late 80's (that's not Joe's real name, ...but his name "Joe Christ" was all legalized for business reason's and performing, etc.Joe had two band's based in Dallas and New York City, the "Healing Faith" and one called "Bigger than God"...so that is what name he is known as). Diamada come's from Greek Orthodox upbringing as well. Her theatric's were quite unique to say the least...very intense and dramatic. I seen her first at a small gathering...private setting...no more than 200 folk's top's...by invitation from Joe... she performed at a venue he part owned. I was impressed when she done a piece that was like a eulogy as well as an incantation combined. In the theatric's of it..there was so much emotion built...she then stripped nude...and covered herself with the blood of slaughtered pig's ... it was so intense of a show...I must say it touched me ...she has won my heart since! She is a very likable...but serious woman on a personal level..especially politically.
Enough said...........
I see I'm not the only one reminded of that South Park episode. The title is Christian Rock Hard, and it's probably worth checking out the full episode. Even if it is censored for television, it's not every day you get to hear a TV character yell out "F*** Jesus!"
Also, I find myself reminded of the time Garth Brooks started the "Touch 'em All Foundation for Children." I guess no one bothered to tell him that the name would make him sound like a pedophile.
I just saw a little known gem on Netflix called "Never Been Thawed". This an indie film from 2005 that is a mocumentary in the style of "This is Spinal Tap" about a christian rock band and a group of frozen entree collectors. I highly recommend it.
