I Haven't washed my hair for a month...

I've gone "no-poo". I quit shampooing my hair 4 weeks ago & it feels great! The final test was when I went to my hairdresser last week to get it cut & she pronounced it clean & healthy .
When I first heard about going no-poo I thought WTF? why would anyone quit using shampoo & conditioner? I had visions of greasy dreadlocks & flies buzzing around my head. I always thought shampoo/conditioner was a prerequisite for clean hair. But, I decided to give it a try, anyway.
I'm convinced...No more buying shampoo or conditioner for me.
Seriously, it's got to be good not to use all those chemicals, dyes & smelly perfumes on your head & there is the added benefit of saving money & creating less plastic for landfills.
Besides it's fun to tell people you haven't washed your hair in a month. :)

So how do you keep it clean? If I go three days without washing mine, it looks like a rat's nest and feels so icky that no self-respecting rat would even ask the realtor about it.
I rinse it really well in warm water then mix a couple of teaspoons of Baking Soda in a cup of warm water & scrub that through my hair then I rinse that & pour about a 1/8 of a cup of vinegar diluted in a cup of water over my hair & rinse. That's all.
It works. :) My scalp feels great, too.
The vinegar would probably be bad for my complexion.
Qf I notice vinegar is listed as a natural face cleanser (but what isn't?). I tried diluting about 1/8 cup vinegar in warm water & applying to my face, it burned a little bit so I don't know if it's a good idea to wash my face with it. I can always slap some yogurt or mayo on it, though,,,:)
Salt n' Vinegar chips causes my facial acne to act up, I always assumed it was the vinegar but perhaps its a combination of all the things at the top of the food pyramid (grease, salt, vinegar, other preservatives).
Salt & vinegar chips are probably not the best thing to eat anyway.
I'm going to work on cleaning my face with simple ingredients. I bought some all natural yogurt today & am going to slather it on my face to see how it feels.
I've already started using a soap made of Goats milk
I frankly dont know a damn thing about shampoo Ms.Rita,or much on hair care period.Yep,I shampoo my hair daily for that matter.Alot of guy's I know are trying to grow out their hair at my age(53)because they worry about going bald, appearance I reckon.I actually have thick full hair, yet about every month,I use a number#4 electric clipper to my entire head to make it short.I frankly could care less if I went bald or not. My daughter has more hair care product's than you can shake a stick at in the bathroom.
You were commenting to me in an earlier post when you posted your stage picture that you just look good because of all the make-up when I pointed out that you looked pretty. In this picture I think you look absolutely great!(w/o all the make up or whatever it was)You have a real pretty smile and face, and I love your hair...even if it isnt washed...I just like it that way.Take that to the bank also, I have alway's had good taste in women, as well as car's and clothes.
Gee thanks *blush*
My girls love hair care products, too. They think the more expensive it is the better it is. The power of advertising is amazing.
If there is one thing that turns me off, it's long hair on men. I mean like ponytail long. Esp. men that are older. I like the present trend of short hair. The back of the neck can be very sexy when it's clean shaven. ;)
Your comment "advertising is amazing" ....um,um,um... aint that the truth!
Actually I never heard that before about the back of neck's being sexy.I figured alot of gal's must like longer hair I reckon, since so many men are focused on their hair these day's.I see those late night infomercial's on the tele, about products for mens hair and growing hair, thickening hair, coloring hair, etc, etc. And I had a few gal's tell me,I should grow my hair out since I have a full head of hair...that it might look good etc, etc. To be honest, it is very comfortable having very short hair to me...it is easy to deal with, and clean. On some thing's,I'm a very simple kind of fella... in other word's,I dont like to have to spend too much time,styling/grooming my hair, or messing with my face,or cream's,or stuff.I have a razor in the bathroom, some shaving cream,a bottle of shampoo(1), a bar of soap,a tube of toothpaste and brush. And that is all that I ever needed...it worx fine for me,and dont take up much time. But I do like pretty hair on a gal, especially the way your's look's.
Later Girl ............. :)
wow...
Great pic of you my dear by the way.
You ARE washing your hair - just not with corporate slime.
I was married to a hair stylist on once and it was an education on marketing in the beauty industry - I also dated someone who worked for Aveda. Soap sold with smoke and mirrors.
My wife was a train wreck, but I do miss the free topless haircuts though.
Wow is right, Rita. If you look like that after not washing your hair in a month, I want your secret.
Or, better yet, your hair. :)
Oh, but I see you do wash it, actually (in reply to Infidel), just with home-made concoctions.
Yes, that sounds familiar. I remember those methods from my childhood days, long time ago and far, far away. (Vinegar, diluted, is great for hair, though its smell not so much.)
