It's Not Over Til It's Over
Working at the newspaper office has brought out the creative side in me that has been dormant since I quit painting, got divorced, & became my sole supporter.
keeping oneself alive & reasonably publicly acceptable is almost full time job, I'm finding out.
But now, the expressive me is just bust'n to come out. I'm trying to find the creative expression that fits my personality & adjusts to my current lifestyle.
The pressure to survive is an anchor that drags me down...but I don't think life should be about that.(unless the anchor is just a bell)
I feel there must be a balance between surviving & the pursuit of happiness.
I suppose one must first decide what it is that truly makes them happy.
Last Feb. I wrote about worm composting. today I took this picture...
It's an avocado shell I took out of my under the sink compost bucket. It's loaded with redworms, cool huh?!

What do you care what the public thinks of you though? You'll get re-elected by virtue of the fact that you're the only democrat.
Wait, do I know too much?
qf I voted democrat in the last election but I'm not really a democrat, so hah!
If we secular humanists want to integrate into society & make any kind of difference, we have to care what people think about us. We have to show that we are honest & trustworthy people capable of virtue & values.
lol, as a bit of a poor kid right now, (ok, a really really poor kid faking lower middle class like a pro) I know how supporting yourself & attempting to look presentable can get... I'm trying to convince family that they REALLY want to buy me some new work clothes so that I fit in with the dress code. Can't even afford the clearance racks... 10 buck tees with a discount on top of that...
I love the worms! Can you pick them up? They're not poisonous or biting or anything, right? That would be cool
starry I volunteer at the local upscale resale clothing boutique that is a non profit for breast cancer research...I don't get paid but do get 1/2 off on all items. That is one way I can afford to clothe myself.
Worm composting is a lot of fun & no they do not bite. I need to divide my worms & find someone that wants to begin composting with this method. I've given a few worm composting units out as gifts. Finding the right recipient is tricky, though. Not everyone wants a bucket of worms living under their sink. :)
Notice the composted material that looks like dirt. It's made completely from shredded newspapers & my organic kitchen waste(vegetable matter & used tea bags)it's such a basic process, but I find it fascinating to be able to replicate it. I feel as if i am a god. ;]
Rita: I'm not really a democrat, so hah!
Well, hmmmm, just when you think you know somebody....Anyhow, those look like healthy and happy worms to me. As far as secular humanism goes, well, just don't do anything that will make them think you're a witch. Also, lol, don't be seen in public floating on water either because it could mean you might be made of wood.

Hey Rita, thanks for the visit :)
My apologies, I haven't posted in a few weeks...
Come visit anytime :)

I'm not so hungry now!
I've lost 8Lbs. in the last week or so.
So thanx! It helps.
Cool worm sculpture you've created there! Gross but cool/
Ahh, a composting compatriot! Those are some healthy looking worms. Excellent job.
I second QF. No walking on water or turning people into newts. And always be on the look out for people trying to attach fake pointy noses.
Nice worms! I was thinking of introducing some worms to my outdoor composter this spring. I don't know that they would stay there where all of the yummy compostables are, or would they go down into the ground and no longer do the work I would like them to do...
qf Monty python & Mel brooks, two of my favorites.
I'm very politically correct in my political life. Except when I have to attend meetings where we say the pledge of allegiance...I never say the "under god" part. It's my little secret. I don't think it would get me burned at the stake?
Ice You're welcome, sista. ;]
wally I wish i could lose eight lbs. I'm so used to my worms they don't bother me a bit. i suppose if I went on a worm diet...
G3T I didn't do it! the worms all decided to snuggle up in the avocado shell themselves. i don't know why! They are worms.
frodo Thank you for the complement concerning my worms. I'm proud of them. There are not a lot of venues for showing off ones worms.
About the witch thing, I'm very careful not to spook the natives.
phil The great thing about redworms is they are compost dwellers that live in the humus above the soil. considering where you live, you would do well to to have them inside in the winter.
Ahh, but maybe you should do it. Bring back the creative flair... with worms.
what ? you quit painting...i didn't know that...that is something !
sorry, i was away from the blogworld...couldn't get enough time to sit in front of the computer for a free time...in two weeks, things should calm down !
G3T An interesting idea.
prash we've gotten used to you going away & turning up again.
Painting...I have no room to paint in this little apartment.
what about your garden ? you can't paint outside ?
mmmmm.....that does look very gourmet.
"Avocado a la verre"
prash You must have me confused with some 19th century french painter in a beret stumbling about the country side with paints, easel, naked nymphs,etc...You are SO naughty!
fifi Yikes! Not you too!!!
Rita sounds turned on there.
This should help: It's the Cupid Love
qf Oh, I like to tease him, It's all perfectly innocent of course. ;]
Interesting link.
Finding a mate is definitely NOT on my schedule of things to do. I'm not the romantic type anyway.
