Continued...

This is the messy part of the felting process, it consists of wetting the newly constructed scarf by pouring about 1/2 cup of boiling hot soapy water along it's length, rolling it up in the bubble wrap and rolling the whole package back and forth on the counter about 400 times.

When the fibers start to felt together and the project becomes stable it can be flipped over, secured back up, and rolled around the counter a couple hundred more times.

The last process involved putting the final design on top of the wet felt and after covering it with a sheet of bubble wrap, used my vibrating sander to agitate the last layer of fibers so they felted themselves into the rest of the design.
When that is done the scarf is rinsed and hung to dry...

The finished scarf.
The finished scarf is as sturdy as any piece of fabric used for clothing. The shiny white fiber on the right is some bamboo roving I bought to try on my next project. It's very soft and a lot like silk. I'm also going to try making silk paper to incorporate into my projects.

It is very cozy. My next project has to do with spring, & will be much lighter. The idea of a babbling brook is appealing to me...
